FUNDING
WINGS receives no statutory funding and is reliant on fundraising and donations to stay open. If you can help please follow the links on the DONATIONS page.
WINGS is in its thirty first year: founded by a small group of parents of children with Special Needs, WINGS became a registered charity in 1998. The group is based in Wombourne, South Staffordshire, and has a growing membership of parents/carers of children and adults with a wide variety of special needs in the South Staffs, Dudley and Wolverhampton areas.
WINGS is based in The WINGS Centre, in the heart of Wombourne. This rented accommodation provides an office, a meeting room (which contains a sensory corner), a kitchen area and small garden.
For the past thirty one years WINGS has provided a regular programme of events and activities for children and young people with a wide range of disabilities including: Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Asperger’s Syndrome, Tuberous Sclerosis, Angelman’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. At our sessions, the children get to take part in a choice of activities and interact socially, whilst receiving the extra care and attention of a one to one carer/facilitator. WINGS is unique in the area as it’s the only group that provides individual carers at all of our staffed sessions. This not only means the children and young people can get the most out of each activity, but also provides some vital respite for families. Our regular sessions include: Sunday Club, Sessions On Saturday (SOS), Youth Clubs, Youth Club Juniors, Summer Playscheme, Playscheme Sensory Sessions and trips out.
In addition to the sessions described above, we will also run Family Events, with the aim of providing parents/carers and siblings opportunities to take part in activities that they wouldn’t usually feel confident about accessing as a family.
